Books – knowledge

In spite of radio, television and other technology, books remain a central form of communication and education today, just as they have been for centuries.

Next month St John’s College will hold its first “book drive” to collect reading material from the community to help stock the school library and classrooms. Members of the public are asked to sort through any books, magazines or other reading matter which may be suitable and drop them off at one of several collection points set up around Hawke’s Bay.

A free collection service will also be available.

The book drive will continue from Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28.

The collection points are: Henry Berry Ltd, Pakowhai Road, Hastings; Bay Flooring Specialists Ltd, Southland Road, Hastings; Peter Church Pharmacy Ltd, West End Shopping Centre, Heretaunga Street, Hastings; Bon Marche, Heretaunga Street, Hastings and Hastings Street North, Napier; Trust Bank, Hastings Central, Mahora and Emerson Street, Napier; Briscoes, Hastings; Flaxmere New World Supermarket, Swansea Road; Poppelwells Menswear, Te Mata Road, Havelock North; Peter Sugden Pharmacy, Gloucester Street, Taradale.

For collection to be arranged, phone St John’s College, 86 853 or 448 587, 449 925, 435 967, 88 380, and 85 621.
