CRICKET’S  JAPESTERS

A WHIMSICAL sense of humour was revealed by one or two members of the Wellington Cricket Club last week when they were compelled to operate the scoreboard at Kilbirnie. P. Cook (on ladder) and M.D. Meech – with the tacit approval of J. Newbigin on the ground – have just hoisted the name of “Jolson” to represent Ray Johnston. There were reprisals, however, for the board subsequently presented Meech to the spectators as “Peech”. Unaware of the liberties being taken on the board is veteran scorer Harry Hatch faintly outlined in the gloom of the scorebox.
