Greater awareness sought by Rotary

At the Rotary changeover earlier this month, Michael Poppelwell received the chain of president from retiring president Cliff King.

Mr Poppelwell said the club’s theme this year was “Our local community’, focussing attention on assisting local groups and individuals. A survey to identify those needing help is being carried out by club members.

One example of such assistance was the recent provision of lighting in the grounds and driveway of Duart House. This project was completed in association with the Hastings District Council.

Mr Poppelwell said the membership stood at 62 currently but he hoped that by being more the community becoming more aware of what the club does through local projects the club could attract more new members.

Rotary is one of the groups affected by the sale of Parkwood Manor Inn and have lost their regular weekly meeting venue of the past 19 years. Currently meetings are being held in the Village Tavern.

Other office bearers elected at the changeover night were Malcolm Walker (Chairman, Club Service); Chris Korte (Community Service), Bruce Downer (International); Frank Cooper (Vocational) and Max Baty (Youth).
