Save the Children Fund donations received in HB

A cheque from a Napier supporter “to help in your work for the hungry children of the world” was among the donations received by the Northern Hawke’s Bay Branch of the Save the Children Fund reported the treasurer, Mrs H. T. Baines at the July meeting.

Another gift of £2/2/- was received from the children of St Mark’s Sunday school, Clive, their third donation within the year.

Mrs Baines also read a letter of thanks from Brigadier Boyce, Director-General of the Commonwealth SCF, for the £300 which was just to hand from the branch for general funds.

A letter of thanks was also read from Mrs Mary Millar, administrator for the SCF in Greece, with a full report of her recent visit to the two New Zealand mobile medical clinics in the Mani area.

“The help given has been far more effective than we dare hope,” she wrote. “The children of Mani are different beings from those I saw on my first visit in 1958.”
