Waipukurau man wins NZ long head event

A Waipukurau man, Mr C. H. Anderton, won the national long head championship with his dog Star at the New Zealand dog trials in South Canterbury.

His dog Bruce was second in the New Zealand short head and yard event.

The veteran Canterbury Mr R. M. Wilson, Kirwee, gained another New Zealand championship.

Mr Wilson, 72, won the short head and yard with his dog Rose.

Mr R. J. Christie, a 46 year-old farmer from Wendon, Southland, won both the New Zealand and South Island straight huntaway championships with three-and a-half-year-old Bess, and on Saturday with Jack, he won his second national championship in a week in the zig zag huntaway.

Other Hawke’s Bay successes were R. Connor, Waipukurau, who was fifth with Fly in the short head and yard championship, and P. Dawson, Fernhill, third with York in the New Zealand championship straight hunt.
