Newspaper Article 1964 – British Women’s Overseas Club

These are several of the miniature dolls from all over the world which were exhibited today at the meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club, held especially for children, in the St Andrew’s Church Hall, Hastings.

Mrs H. W. Wilson, Hastings, who owns the dolls, has only recently begun to collect them. Most have been sent to her by friends or relations who are travelling overseas.

Among the collection are Canadian dolls, Yugoslav, Australian aborigines, Japanese, Indian, Spanish, Italian, Mexican, French and many others, all beautifully dressed and making a colourful display.

The French doll is over 100 years old and has been handed down in a Dunedin family for years. However, the most recent owner of it had no daughters to give it to and so gave it to Mrs Wilson.
