Learned to fly Canterbury Aviation Coy Sockburn 1917; Royal Flying Corps, RAF [Royal Air Force] 1917-19, 148 Night Bomber Squadron; joined Ormonds Motors 1921; took over business 1928; HB & EC [Hawke’s Bay & East Coast] Aero Club 1929; former Gisborne Air Transport Ltd 1931; director East Coast Airways Ltd on formation 1934; RNZAF [Royal New Zealand Air Force] 1939 as fl-lt [flight-lieutenant], rising to group captain; held appointments inspection administration, director organization & staff duties
