Pakowhai Country Park Letter 1976

PAKOWHAI COUNTRY PARK
TRUST BOARD INC.

HASTINGS NEW ZEALAND

306 W. Lyndon Rd.,
Hastings.

March 23rd 1976.

Dear Sir,

Since incorporation 2½ years ago, the Trust Board has been fortunate to have the services of Mrs. Marissa Devine as Hon. Secretary. Changing family circumstances have now compelled Mrs. Devine to resign after several years of invaluable service, and a replacement is urgently needed if the work of the Board is to continue efficiently. I shall be grateful if you will draw this vacancy to the attention of your members and enquire whether one of them or their wives would be prepared to undertake this work for a limited period of two or three years.

Now that the initial work of establishing the Pakowhai Country Park has been completed, the duties of Hon. Secretary should be relatively light, and will consist of keeping the minutes of the Annual General Meeting and perhaps three or four committee meetings annually, and dealing with a limited amount of correspondence. There is a separate Hon. Treasurer.

Typing ability would be an advantage, but duplicating services are available. Please contact me as soon as possible.

Friends of Pakowhai.   The area planted in native bush has now been established thanks to the devoted work of Mr. Earl Lee, Mr. John Taylor and their helpers. Hitherto the Board has relied on periodic working bees provided by the Service Clubs to further its planting programme, and valuable help has been provided in the past and will be required again in the future. The time has now come however when regular maintenance, care and development is required in established areas under the direction of Mr. Lee, and the Board has decided to organise a group to be known as “the Friends of Pakowhai” – people who will be prepared to undertake a limited but definite commitment to care for and develop an area of native bush, within the general format of the Board’s planting programme.

Friends would receive regular progress reports from the Board, as well as invitations to attend the Annual General Meeting and special meetings of the Board and field days. They would be entitled to plant and attach if they wish their names to individual trees. There will be an annual subscription of $5 or Life Membership of $100.

Anybody wishing to become a Friends of Pakowhai, please write to Dr. M.I. Bostock, Te Aute Rd. , Hastings R. D. 2 enclosing cheque or money order made payable to the Pakowhai Country Trust Board Inc.

Yours sincerely,
[Signature]
M. I. Bostock,
Chairman.
