Parkvale School Road Safety Leaflet

ROAD SAFETY

HOWARD STREET

Howard Street is an extremely busy and dangerous area both before and after school so we seek the co-operation of ALL PARENTS to make this area as safe as for the Parkvale School children.

We ask that all parents adhere to the following guidelines:

Drive at a speed that is safe for the conditions. Please report any car that is considered to be –
a) speeding
b) passing in a dangerous manner
– by reporting to Police with the car’s plate number.

Do not double park – please request politely that drivers move their cars if this does happen. “This action is dangerous to all” – or words to this effect would be extremely helpful and shows that we are ALL concerned about safety in this area.

The “Turning Bay” outside the hall is NOT a parking area and children are NOT to be dropped off in this area, NOR to wait in this area to be collected. Neither is the school car park a drop off or collecting zone – BOTH AREAS are “OUT OF BOUNDS” for our children.

If you park on the opposite side of the from the school PLEASE escort your children across the road.

Ensure children alight from cars on the KERB SIDE of the road.

The Yellow Lines are a NO PARKING area.

A staff member is on “GATE DUTY” daily at 2.45 pm:
to supervise children leaving the school grounds,
to supervise road crossings,
to supervise the safety of your children.

PLEASE cross only at this supervised point marked by cones.

Park cars in legal position only.

Please STOP to allow children to cross the road under teacher supervision.

Loading Cars/Buses for School Trips

Buses – loading outside the main gate of the school.

Cars – INSIDE the school grounds.

Parent’s cars enter the school grounds through the car park entrance and drive past the office/ Rooms 14, 15,16 and park in this loop area, leaving by the main entrance.

Loading/unloading takes place under supervision in this area.

Large groups may need to use the playing field (notified by newsletter if this is the case).

The co-operation of all will help to –
make the whole area safe,
avoid a tragic accident.

With thanks,

“The Parkvale School Community”
