Joseph

The story of Joseph, is based upon the original Joseph Chapters 37- 45 of Genesis. The “Coat of Many Colours” is given to Joseph by his father, Jacob, who looks on Joseph as his favourite son. This makes his eleven brothers jealous, and they in turn sell Joseph to a travelling band of Ishmaelites. He is taken to Egypt where his gift of interpreting dreams leads to his rise in status to the position of Prime Minister of Egypt.

Joseph’s coat represents to him the beauty of fantasy and imagination where the mind runs wild with fascinating ideas, sights and sounds. It is in this state that Joseph learns about his character, his attitudes to others, and to life in general.

The major part of the show then is a dream. Jacob is told of his son’s “death” by a chorus of cowboys (the brothers). Pharoah appears as the true “king” of rock and the brothers plead for the life of Benjamin with a calypso!
