The Hawkes Bay Jazz Club’s aim is to promote Jazz and other forms of music to encourage active musicians and provide entertainment for non-playing members. The Club is a non-profit making organization and charges it’s [its] membership a nominal annual fee of $20. All funds raised are used for the benefit of the members including a monthly newsletter, monthly club nights, subsidizing the costs of visiting musicians and leftover funds at the end of the year subsidises our Xmas Party. Last year was a very successful year for the Club with the following visiting Groups and Musicians entertaining us…

Roy Phillips, ex Peddlers with vocals, keyboards and Jeff Culverwell, trumpet.
Midas Touch, vocal trio, plus backing group from Wellington.
Jews Brothers, from Auckland – had to have been seen to be believed.
Christchurch Jazz School Septet a group of 2nd year students struttin’ their stuff.
Bill Cunliffe, piano, from California with Roger Fox, trom – a real treat.
David Paquette, from New Orleans, made the piano jump at the Xmas Party.

And of course, our own Jazz Club musicians and vocalists at the popular Club Nights. The Hawkes Bay Jazz Club Big Band, Timepiece, Neal Totty & Terry Wild Big Band, the Twin City Stompers, along with other Club Nights such as Piano night, Vocalist night, Big Jam night, night and Dixie afternoon.

Subscriptions for 1st January to 31st December 1998 Membership is $20 per person/$30 per couple or family, and payable on application. Membership of the Hawkes Bay Jazz Club entitles free entry to Club Nights, except in the case of “out-of-town artists” where there will be a moderate charge to assist with expenses.
