“That Art Puts the
Sparkle in Life’s
Bottle”

Creative
HASTINGS

Affirmative

Keith Thorsen
Passionate advocate for the arts, Keith leads the defence of the pre-eminent position of the arts in providing the sparkle in life’s bottle. Having looked inside a few bottles in his time, Keith should know.

Yvonne Marie Lorkin
Of course Keith’s knowledge of the inside of a bottle pales into insignificance when ranked beside Yvonne, who has wangled a career that pays her to drink. She drinks on behalf of Dish Magazine, nine newspapers plus National Radio and Classic Hits. She is keen to hear of any others who want her to drink for them.

Mary Kippenberger
Mary Kippenberger is married to a musician, which has completely failed to drive her to drink, but has reinforced her commitment to the arts including that of telling big whoppers which she does professionally to anyone who will listen.

Chairman:   Peter Gough
Winemaker – Ngatarawa Wines

With an introduction to the evening by
Cynthia Bowers
Chairperson of Creative Hastings

Followed by some words on behalf of
Crighton Stone from Frank Spenser

Negative

Brendan Webb
A career of journalism drove Brendan to a depth of cynicism about human nature that has led him to get a small dog. He can’t see the point of art and doesn’t think that life after Kafka has any sparkle at all.

Ken Keys
Growing up in Northern Island, Ken’s early view of art were threats to kill painted on brick walls. He escaped real life into the wonder world of drama where the tinsel and the greasepaint protected him from a world of threat and torment, where the swords are all rubber tipped and the bottles are full of coloured water.

Wyn Drabble
Wyn doesn’t understand art nor the need to understand art. Faced with the choice of writing cook books on the vast panoply of the world’s food, he chose feijoas. Lately he has turned to songwriting to disguise the emptiness within.
