ARTIST BIOS

LUDWIG TREVIRANUS
Ludwig is one of New Zealand’s most talented and versatile young pianists. Of Samoan-German descent, Ludwig studied under New Zealand luminaries Michael Houston and Rae de Lisle, before heading to Florida to complete his Doctorate in piano performance.
Ludwig lives in Wellington, teaches at the New Zealand School of Music for the Young Musicians Program, and performs internationally, most recently in the USA, Australia and Fiji.

BONAVENTURE ALLAN-MOETAUA
One of “The Three Tenors and a Soprano” group, Bonaventure is a tenor of Rarotongan heritage and has a wide repertoire. Bonaventure has performed throughout New Zealand and has played a leading role in the Operatunity series.
He has been widely acclaimed here and in the Pacific Islands – a recent performance was described thus – “Moetaua had the crowd on their feet with cries of bravo and ‘encore’ and his guitar solo was also hugely applauded”.

AMALIA HALL
Amalia is without doubt the standout violinist of her generation. She has won numerous international competitions, including first prize at the Postacchini International Violin Competition, and has won all the major awards in New Zealand. She has given masterclasses at famous institutions such as The Menuhin School, Vicenza Conservatorio, Rossini Conservatorio and the New Zealand School of Music.

MARIA MO

Maria is currently a Doctoral student studying Piano performance under Rae de Lisle in Auckland. As well as touring throughout New Zealand to critical acclaim, her international performances in Australia, the UK and Europe have included prestigious festivals such as St-Martin-in-the-Fields and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Hello

The Piano is an amazing instrument, that forever changed the face of music as we know it – from classical to jazz and everything in between. It has been an essential ingredient in producing great music ever since.

So we decided to have a party to celebrate, by creating ‘Piano in the Vines’ – a fantastic new light classical/jazz crossover concert to be held under the stars at Black Barn Amphitheatre in Havelock North.

We want you to have a great time tapping your feet to uplifting pieces such as Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata, Chopin’s ‘Fantasia Impromptu’, Strauss’s ‘Blue Danube Waltz,’ Brahms ‘Hungarian Dances’, extracts from Bizet’s ‘Carmen Opera’, and Gershwin’s ‘I’ve got Rhythm’ and ‘Embraceable You’.

TINKLING IVORIES, TWINKLING STARS –
A GRAND IDEA FROM EUROPE

The idea took root when a friend described attending piano concerts set amongst the vines of Europe. A vison of Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight’ actually being played under the moonlight, on a concert-sized grand piano, at Black Barn Amphiteheatre (Amphitheatre) took shape.

I imagined an audience who simply like a good time, nodding along to the rhythms, singing along to a few famous opera chorus lines, reflecting on timeless classics, all whilst sitting back under the twinkling stars, gazing out over the lights of Hawkes Bay.

One of the things about dreams is that when you share them they often become reality. My concert-sized grand is the real McCoy from Hastings Opera House, my musicians are a highly talented group of young New Zealand stars, and the Black Barn venue is simply stunning.

We’ve created a program that’s light, familiar, and should get your heart racing. The music is for everyone, young and old, and no matter what your musical tastes.

Sign up now for what will be fantastic night under the stars – pure and simple ‘Piano in the Vines’- it will be a magical experience.
