Message from the President

The Napier Frivolity Minstrels (Inc) known as “The Frivs” began performing in 1897.  It has continued to perform at least one show per year for 127 years including during the World Wars, Covid and more recently Cyclone Gabrielle.  It has been a struggle without our own theatre to perform in and finding younger people to perform or help backstage.  Over the years, the “Frivs” has given many people an opportunity to perform and provided entertainment to the people of Hawke’s Bay.

Our show this year “Circus Daze” is a musical comedy combined with a bit of old fashioned Pantomime.  A huge thanks to the director, Margaret Atkins and her team for putting this production on.  It takes a lot of effort, time and commitment for it to happen.  I wish you all a successful season.

Message from the Director

Welcome to “Circus Daze’.  I have been involved with the Frivs since 1955 and have acted in, produced and directed many productions in that time or Frivs and other Societies.  This show was written by one of our ex Frivs, Sid Henney.  I directed this show for the Junior Frivs (all children) in 1997.  For this production, we have adults and children.

Thanks to all the Cast, who have worked so hard, the Production Team and also the patient parents who have supported their children for this production.  I hope they will all be involved in many Frivs Shows in the future.  Thanks also to the Frivs Committee.

We would all now like you to just sit back and enjoy this year’s production.
