The competition for designs of a band rotunda for Queen’s Square was won by Messrs Rush and James, architects, Station Street. The committee gave due consideration to each of the designs received. The accepted design is decidedly a move from the common form of rotunda, as seen in almost every town, and should be an attractive ornament to Queen’s Square. The design is purely Arabian in character, the base is to be build and finished in painted brickwork. The dome roof is mounted on eight cast iron columns and brackets, to be cast from the full-sized detailed drawings of the architects to meet the peculiar character of the Arabian architecture. Tenders are now being called for the erection of the structure, and it is expected to be completed by February 22nd, in time for the coming contest.
