Chairman for several years East Coast Rugby Union; chairman Horouta Tribal Executive Committee 1956-70; member New Zealand Maori Council; member East Cape Forestry Steering Committee 1970; served on Royal Committee on Surplus Lands of Crown and other committees with the late Right Honourable Sir Michael Myers; ANZ (Australia New Zealand) delegate to United Nations Assembly 1949 with Sir Carl Berendson
