Act of Remembrance for Armistice Day

Hymn

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou are guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

Welcome and lighting of the candle   Guy Nelson

Preparation

The creator God has given us much
and in our turn, we too shall build.
We dedicate this service of celebration
To God the Father, who loves us,
To God the Son who loves us and gave himself for us,
To God the Holy Spirit who fills our hearts with love.

Anthem   Lord who hast made us for Thine own   arr. by G. Holst
Sung by the Woodford House Chapel Choir

Readings from William’s Diary
Descendants and Woodford Old Girls   Juliet Flanagan (Renton)

Psalm 15

Lord, who shall dwell in Thy tabernacle:
or who shall rest upon Thy holy hill.
Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life:
and doeth the thing which is right,
and speaketh the truth from his heart,
He that hath used no deceit in his tongue, or done evil to his neighbour:
and hath not slandered his neighbour.
He that setteth not by himself, but is lowly in his own eyes:
and maketh much of them that fear the Lord.
He that sweareth unto his neighbour, and disappointeth him not:
though it were to his own hindrance.
He that hath not given his money upon usury:
nor taken reward against the innocent.
Whoso doeth these things: shall never fall.

Glory be to the Father, and to Son: and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end.  Amen

Bible Reading   Matthew 5:1-12

Canticle   O be joyful   by  B. Rose
Sung by the Woodford House Chapel Choir

Address   Reverend Graeme Pilgrim

Hymn

Lord of creation, to Thee be all praise!
Most mighty Thy working, most wondrous Thy ways!
Who reignest in glory no tongue can e’er tell,
Yet deign’st in the heart of the humble to dwell.

Lord of all power, I give Thee my will,
In joyful obedience Thy tasks to fulfil.
Thy bondage is freedom; Thy service is song;
And, held in Thy keeping, my weakness is strong.

Lord of all wisdom, I give Thee my mind,
Rich truth that surpasseth man’s knowledge to find.
What eye hath not seen and what ear hath not heard
Is taught by Thy Spirit and shines from Thy Word.

Lord of all bounty, I give Thee my heart;
I praise and adore Thee for all that Thou art;
Thy love to inspire me, Thy counsel to guide,
Thy presence to shield me, whate’er may betide.

PTO

Lord of all being, I give Thee my all;
If e’er I disown Thee, I stumble and fall;
But, sworn in glad service Thy word to obey,
I walk in Thy freedom to the end of the way.

Prayers

Lord’s Prayer

Offertory hymn

Praise my soul the King of heaven,
To His feet thy tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Who like me His praise should sing?
Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise the everlasting King!

Praise Him for His grace and favour
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him still the same for ever,
Slow to chide and swift to bless.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him!
Glorious in His faithfulness

Father-like He tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame he knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him!
Widely as His mercy flows.

Angels, help us to adore Him,
Ye behold Him face to face:
Sun and moon, bow down before Him,
Dwellers all in time and space.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise with us the God of grace.
