Born Nelson, 31 August 1933, son of Stuart Romanes and Catherine (nee Burnup); married Beverley Densen, daughter of Valmar and Geoffrey Densem, 1959; three sons three daughters.
Educated Clyde Quay Primary School, Wellington, Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College, Petone; Registered Member Clerk of Works Institute 1965; Advance Trade Certificate, Carpentry and Joinery 1970.
Apprentice carpenter, joiner, Churchouse & Shirley, 1950-51; Partner (apprenticeship transferred) S Romanes and Son, 1952-61; Unicast Concrete Ltd, Hastings 1961-, Governing Director 1962; Director, Hastings Permanent Building Society 1973-, current Deputy Chairman; Commissioned Member, Federation of International Precast Concrete Association, 1986.
