CHAPTER 15
MATAHIWI 1901-1903
This photograph appeared on a calendar a few years ago, entitled ‘H Smith and Sons, Timber Mill, Ormondville, Hawke’s Bay’. Efforts to track down the original proved unsuccessful. It was reproduced in a book by Matthew Wright Historic Hawke’s and East Coast, referenced to the Woodville area, and sourced to the Hawke’s Bay Museum [1]. They in turn were unable to provide any further details and do not hold the original either. Until the photo turns up in the possession of a family member, we cannot be sure it is Henry’s mill, but believe if it was, it was likely to be at Matahiwi.
