Convenor, several Presbyterian Church committees, 1952-74; Chaplain, Scottish Regiment (Territorial), 1952-62; played active part 1950s in such causes as racial harmony and insisted that Maori be included in sporting teams claiming to be truly representative of NZ (early, outspoken opponent of 1960 All Black tour of South Africa without Maori).
