FREEZING WORKS – FROZEN MEAT LEAVING FREEZING CHAMBERS.

JOLL BROS., Storekeepers and General Merchants, Waitara. Established 1879. Bankers, Bank of Australasia, New Plymouth. Agents for the Commercial Insurance Company, Lloyd’s Mokau Lime, etc. The extensive business of this firm has been carried on by Messrs. Joll for many years. A large stock of general groceries, ironmongery, and other merchandise is kept on hand. As direct importers they were the first to land goods direct from London to Waitara. In conjunction with the store, the firm has a butter factory at Waipapa, their “Clematis” brand of butter being well known. Both brothers were born in Taranaki and are sons of Mr. Samuel Joll, an old settler, who served in the volunteers against the Maoris in the sixties. He took a trip to Australia when Ballarat, Bendigo, and Fryer’s Creek were household words, met with fair luck, returned and settled in Taranaki, and reared a family of thirteen. The second son is storekeeping and has the largest private butter factory in the Colony at Okaiawa; this son represented his province in the football field against the Englishmen, when Taranaki defeated them. The other four sons are good athletes and interested in out-door sports.

Mr. HARRY JOLL is a member of the Waitara School Committee and a director of the Waitara Freezing Works.

The brothers are each very popular and take an active part in all matters relating to the welfare of their district.
