Born Woodville, 16 August 1916, son of Wilfred and Francis Emma Hindmarsh Turner; married Edith Amelia Dampney, daughter of Richard Henry and Edith Maud Dampney, 1940; three sons, one daughter.
Educated: Puketitiri Primary School, Napier Boys’ High School; Otago University, MB ChB 1939, Otago University Medical Graduates Association Medal in Senior Clinical Medicine, 1939; Harvard Medical School, 1957; MRCP 1949 (FRCP 1970), FRACP 1952.
MO, Medical Corps, NZ Army and RNZAF, NZ and overseas, 1942-45.
House Physician, Wellington and Napier Hospitals, 1939-41; Resident Physician, Hawera Hospital, 1941-42; Visiting Physician, Napier Hospital, 1946; Assistant in Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, 1957
