THE TWYFORD GARDEN RAMBLE
Gardens you can achieve … to gardens you can dream about…
On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 of November 1998, Twyford School and community welcome you to visit and enjoy a beautiful and diverse array of rural gardens. As one of Hawke’s Bay’s most fertile orcharding areas, it is no surprise that Twyford has many hidden treasures in its collection of private gardens. We offer you a rare opportunity to enjoy this collection of gardens, many of which have never before been opened to the public.
THE GARDENS
The Twyford Garden Ramble features fifteen rural gardens, including the outstanding property belonging to Frank and Dorothy Curd, last year’s winners of the Hastings District Council Rural Garden of the Year Award. Other highlights will be Rakaunui, the home of Ru and Chan Collin, where the delightful old English garden is set amongst 100 year old oak trees. Flaxmere, the home of Margaret and Mike Donnelly will be open for viewing for the first time. A tree lined driveway to the property hides two intriguing and diverse gardens and the ruins of the original Flaxmere homestead. Applelands, owned by Christine and Peter Beaven, is a large country residence with an original water feature, which will be another important stop on your garden ramble, as will the garden in progress at Te Awa Farm Winery. Enjoy a winery lunch in this interesting country garden, with its choice of peaceful vistas and plantings of native trees and shrubs.
