WAIMARAMA DOMAIN BOARD.
P.O. BOX 12,
HASTINGS.
7th October, 1969.
Commissioner of Crown Lands,
P. O. Box 148,
NAPIER.
Dear Sir,
As you are aware, the Waimarama Domain Board has been negotiating with the Marist Mission Society of Greenmeadows for the purchase of some land of about 15 acres adjoining the present Waimarama Domain, but without success and according to the correspondence from them as quoted in your letter of 18th April 1969, they have no wish to sell or lease their land.
Since that time the Domain Board has authorized me to make inquiries concerning two other sections of land adjoining the Mission land to see if the owners would be prepared to selling these sections which are described on the map as follows:-
AREA DESCRIPTION
9a. 2r.20.8p Pt. Waimarama 3A5
(Approx) Sec. 1B. Block
AREA DESCRIPTION
6a.1r.12.8p. Pt. Waimarama 3A5
(Approx) Sec. 2A. Block
This would there by give us some extra land to provide for further car parking, picnic area and possibly caravan sites which we consider are very urgently needed.
My inquiries have reached the point where the majority of the owners, who are Maoris, have signified their willingness to sell and it is now our wish to have the matter carried forward to its ultimate conclusion by having it further investigated by your department and take the necessary steps to achieve the purchase.
All this investigation has been done with the full knowledge and approval of the County Council who have advised me that they are prepared to finance the purchase to a total sum of $8,556 if necessary.
The 6 acre block is at present leased by Mr E.V. Long of Waimarama but he has told me on several occasions that he would be very happy to release the land if a sale could be arranged.
