THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES AND GENERAL INFORMATION

FEBRUARY   School commenced with roll of 31; 14 juniors and 17 seniors.
Visits by Mr DW Sheppard, Inspector, and Mr E Hogge, Physed adviser.
Swimming sports at Sherenden. Waiwhare 4th with 26 points.

MARCH   In-service Course on Language for teachers at Sherenden School.
Visit from Mr CO Farmer, School Traffic Officer. D&A Sports day at Matapiro.
School received new vacuum cleaner.
Septic tanks cleaned.

MAY   New Zip water heater for staffroom, House fireplace repaired.

JUNE   Visits from dental nurse and public health nurse.
Science course for teachers at Sherenden.
Several winter sports fixtures played.

JULY   Visit from Mr P Hogan, Inspector.

AUGUST   Infants attended film (Tales of Beatrix Potter).

Two Form 1 girls to Camp Kaitawa – Allison McPhail and Wendy Kyle.
Mrs Snook started taking sewing with the senior girls. Mr McDonald lectured at a Kindergarten Teachers’ Course. Language/Maths In-Service Course for teachers at Mahora. Visit from Mr D McKenzie, Psychologist.

OCTOBER   Mrs Richards organised a Red Cross Youth evening at Sherenden Hall.

NOVEMBER   S3 to F2 pupils of Sherenden and Waiwhare Schools went on a week’s educational tour of Auckland.
Swimming and softball commenced. Hearing and vision survey by Nurse Fuller.

DECEMBER   The end of year break-up ceremony consisted of a series of folk dances performed by both rooms. Mr DW Sheppard was guest speaker and Rev. and Mrs McGechie were special guests. Parents were invited to view displays of work in both rooms.
Form 2 leavers had a special morning tea.

Launch trip to Chelsea Sugar Refinery

9   Crown Lynn Potteries
Auckland Railway Station – Control section
Auckland Harbour Board – tour of wharves and container crane
Top of the Administration building (tallest)

10   St Luke’s shopping centre
Airport for flight home via Hamilton and Gisborne.

Trams at the Museum of Transport & Technology

Nov 8th – lunch at Devonport

Nov 8th – launch trip to Chelsea Sugar Refinery

Nov 9th – the Auckland Harbour Board’s container crane

Nov 9th – Auckland Railway Station – the Silver Star

Nov 10th – Up, up and away to sunny Hawke’s Bay!
