THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES AND GENERAL INFORMATION

FEBRUARY   The school roll reopened with 32, and Miss O’Donnell as the infant teacher again this year.

MARCH   Swimming sports at Sherenden.
Rural Schools Course for teachers.
D&A Day at Matapiro. Waiwhare did well, came 3rd.
Visit from Mr R Pearcy, new Rural Schools adviser.
New committee elected, including two women.

MAY   Visit from dental nurse.
Toilets blocked – plumber called.

JUNE   Working bee for cutting hedge, firewood, large tree, and clearing spring water supply.

JULY   Civil Defence demonstration held at Otamauri.

Play centre pupils visited the school.
Combined schools winter tournament at Pukehamoamoa.
Visit from Mr B Sanderson, Art & craft adviser.
Pupils visited Kaweka State Forest.

AUGUST   The school house was painted during the holidays.

SEPTEMBER   Mrs Snook again teaching sewing, while the boys do a tapestry.
Visit from Mr Sanderson to introduce tapestry making.
The Governor-General visited Hastings. Waiwhare pupils attended.

OCTOBER   Visit from Mr Pearcy, Rural Schools adviser.
Usual Show and Labour Day holidays.

DECEMBER   Mr Hogan, Inspector, brought three UK teachers to visit the school.
Senior children went on a fishing trip aboard the MV Enterprise
Miss O’Donnell was presented with a gift at a school morning tea.
A most successful end of year ceremony was held, starting with a barbecue tea.
The Christmas party was held at the school as usual, & the children attended in fancy dress.

Separate sealed tenders in accordance with the conditions of tender will be received by the undersigned at the Board’s office, Browning Street, Napier up till 2pm on Wednesday, August 1, 1973 for repainting of the following:
Rissington. – exterior of school and outbuilding, exterior and part interior of residence.
Waiwhare – Exterior of pre-fab classroom and outbuildings, exterior and part interior of residence.
Specifications may be obtained from the Board’s office. Lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.
