THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES AND GENERAL INFORMATION

FEBRUARY   The school opened with a roll of 32, 16 in each room.
New storeroom completed by builders. Inter-school swimming sports at Sherenden, excellent swimming by Jeannie Comrie and Paul Dyson.

MARCH   Senior room on a day trip to Kaweka Hut in preparation for Camp Kaitawa. Left with children from Otamauri and Sherenden Schools for a week at Camp Kaitawa on 28th.

APRIL   All returned safely from a fantastic week. D&A sports at Matapiro placed 4th overall.
Visit from Police Youth Aid Officer.

MAY   School closed on 7th for May holidays, opened for second term on 24th with a roll of 27 children.
Visit from School Inspector Mr D Sheppard.

JUNE   Usual winter sports at Crownthorpe School. Speech therapist Mrs Mill visited. Rural Adviser Mr J Nelson visited Rev. McGechie continued monthly visits.

JULY   Mrs Smith took Junior Red Cross to visit various facilities in Hastings.

AUGUST   School closed 20th for end of Term II. Team of 4 competed in Gymnastics Festival.

SEPTEMBER   School re-opened on 6th with a roll of 42 Audio/Vision tests by Nurse Fuller Public Health Nurse Morley also visited.

OCTOBER   Parents Maths evening, in Senior Room. Usual Committee holidays during Show week.

NOVEMBER   Swimming Pool filter started up. Visit of four students from Wellington Teachers’ College for two days. Mr D McKenzie, District Psychologist visited on referral. Annual Pet Day held. Swimming instruction commenced 15th.

DECEMBER   Junior Room visited Havelock North Primary School. Senior Room visited Marineland, Planetarium and Lilliput Village, Napier. Padder tennis tie with Otamauri School – first ever victory for Waiwhare. Form II leavers morning tea, reports issued. Break-up function 14th with pupils’ items, games and barbecue, school closed for holidays on 16th.
