Waiwhare School 1982 Newspaper Article – Waiwhare climbing tower

Waiwhare climbing tower

The Waiwhare School’s climbing tower (above) should be completed by the end of the year.

Most of the structural work has been finished with a rope wall, a tyre climbing tower and a firemen’s pole to be added.

More than $1000 worth of materials have been used, with finance coming from the 25th jubilee profits from two years ago and a New Zealand Lottery Board grant.

Mr David Ward (pictured) has been largely responsible for the construction with help from parents at a working bee.

He said that living near the school made it quite easy to drop in and do some work on the playground when he had free time.

Pictured with Mr Ward are. – (Bottom row) left to right: Philippa Kay, Jonathon [Jonathan] Kyle, Toni Wallis, Jason Davidson, Campbell Vette and Tony Worseley [Worsley]. (Top row): Trudy Shield [Sheild], Annette Huff, Peter Ward and Ian Drayton.
