Snow chills Hawke’s Bay

Snow is closing in on Hawke’s Bay with one area experiencing its first snowfall in five years.

Taihape Road’s Waiwhare School principal Tony Simons said this morning one parent came to pick up a child at school because 8cm of snow had fallen on a nearby farm.

The school had its first snowfall in about five years this morning although rain washed it away within half an hour.

A heavy coating of snow was reported at the Tarawera Tavern on the Napier-Taupo Road late this morning and conditions on the road are treacherous.

Snow fell at Norsewood for two hours this morning but melted almost as soon as it touched the ground.
