TERM 1, 1996

26 January   Teacher only day held for staff.  Construction of unit overview for 1996.  Visitors, resources and field trips planned, stationery list drawn up.

29 January   The school opened with a roll of 21.

5 February   Formation of Taihape Rd cricket team, based around Waiwhare, Sherenden and     Pukehamoamoa Schools.  Practise games and entry in the local Saturday morning grades in February – March.

9 February   School swimming sports held.  Presentation of certificates, “Beginning Swimming” video shown to parents, staff and pupils.

7-9 February    Life Education Trust caravan domiciled at Pukehamoamoa.  Juniors visit on Wednesday 7th, seniors on Thursday 9th.

13 February   “toots ‘n’ tunes” recommenced.

14 February   Taihape Rd head teachers cluster meeting.

17-18 February    MACPAC event. School to cater on Sunday at Kuripapango.

19 February   Social Studies orientation meeting – Liz Stuart.

23 February   Meeting to nominate bus routes for 1996.

24 February    Waiwhare Sports Day.

22, 26-9 February   Bereavement leave for the acting principal.  Sarah Agnew and Keren Wallace relieved.

4-5 March   Social Studies curriculum delivery course, held at Riverbend Christian Centre.

6 March   Visit by Eric Hogge (PE adviser).  Theme – Te Reo Kori.

7 March   Aquapass (swimming survival techniques) commenced.

4-28 March   Four week loan of Technics Lego material.

7 March   Healthy lunch day held at Sherenden hall.

11-15 March    Camp for whole school at Opoutama YMCA.

19 March   Murray Jamieson visited.

21 March   Visit by Rata Olsen Scout group.

22-23 March   Information Technology weekend attended by Carol Ayres, Margaret and Ray Mettrick.

25-27 March   Kelvin Smythe, social studies course attended by Keren Wallace, Margaret, Ray Mettrick. Aquapass tests conducted in pool.  Modem classes held during second half of term one.

TERM 2, 1996

4 April   Tutorial on multimedia delivery with John Phelps.  Technology package arranged.

15 April   Visit by Jeannie Wright, National Library.

17 April   Assessment (curriculum delivery – social studies) – Margaret and Ray attended.

18 April   Demonstration at Westshore of skipping skills.

19 April   Course for gifted children, Ruth Cathcart, Ruawharo, for parents and staff.

22 April   Workshop on Dacta Lego.  Staff meeting, “show and tell” (evening).  Community meeting at 7.30pm (PTA funds).

29 April   Internet visit by Linda Warner.

30 April   Visit by John Medcalf, SES.

1 May   Music course, Margaret attended.

2 May   Field trip to Hastings.  Whole school event.  Visited “Megafun” (computerised activities), school library service, Hastings Public Library, Cliff Print and HB Herald-Tribune.

7 May    Novice gymnastics held at Havelock North.  Two teams involved.

14 May   Head teachers’ meeting of Taihape Rd principals at Sherenden School.

15 May   Music course (2nd stage).  Margaret attended.

21 May   Kiwi netball visit by Nicola Lopdell (coaching co-ordinator).

22 May   Preliminary visit to forestry by staff members.  Rural adviser visited.

24 May   Gymnastics workshop and dress rehearsal with Yvette Packe.

26 May   HB Gymnastics Festival.  2 teams. Held in Centennial Hall, Napier.

27 May   Practical work in Kaweka Forest.

31 May   Jump Rope For Heart.

4 June    Reports were distributed – with interview request notices.

7 June    John Phelps (computer technology) to visit.  Postponed.

10 June   Stock market clash game (F1 & 2) completed.  Interviews commenced.

Brian Tolley and Helen Arthur came to tell the children about local history.

12 June   Interviews completed.

Library meeting with Jeannie Wright.

13 June   BOT meeting.

17 June   Social studies meeting with Liz Stuart.

18 June   Visit by district nurse.  Health injections.

Enrolment of Thomas McDougal.

19 June   Field trip (both classes) – Tumu Timbers, McDonalds, Carters, Transfer Station, Whirinaki, Craig’s Jams, Growers, science fair. Food and forestry theme.

20 June   Winter sports.

Combined BOT meeting.

22 June   Working bee.

25 June   Senior school to Sherenden School for production and winter sports.

26 June   School photographs.

28 June   Closing of Waiwhare School.
