Biography
Started work in Vance Vivian’s in Wellington, returned to Hastings and went into business with his father in a menswear shop
When Poppelwell’s bought an existing business at Havelock North, Bob Thorpe Ltd, Michael managed the shop. Several menswear businesses in the area eventually floundered and even though the main umbrella of Poppelwell’s found it difficult to continue, Michael bought the Havelock North shop from the Poppelwell Company and continued in business.
