Biography

Arrived in New Zealand on the “Maori”, with his employers, Stuart and Kinross, 1855
Worked for Stuart and Kinross in Glasgow, Wellington and Napier
Came to Napier, 1858
Set up first general store at the Spit, Napier, 1878
Joined the Napier militia, 1866, awarded New Zealand War Medal
Member of Spit School committee, Spit Fire Brigade, Ancient Order of Oddfellows, Masonic Lodge Victoria
Member of management committee of St. Paul’s Presbyterian church and the Port Presbyterian Church
Along with his wife, Margaret, organised Brunner and Kaitangata Relief Funds as well as other funds
