HASTINGS.

Dear “Harry”,

While there will be representatives of the family present at the Greater Hastings function following the retirement following the retirement of you and John Minty, we felt that the occasion demanded a letter of appreciation from us all.

We thank you for your great contribution, through Greater Hastings over many years, in making Hastings a brighter, more interesting and better place to live. We thank you too for your ready co-operation whenever “the Jones” boys have engaged in some promotion or activity requiring the help of your organisation.

When trying to work for the public benefit, you sometimes seem to receive more brickbats than bouquets, but what really counts is the personal inner satisfaction of having played your part, and in your case you can rest very content.

We all admire Mrs. Poppelwell, not least because we know that without her encouragement and support you would not have been able to accomplish what you have, and we thank her for her part in your achievements.

We know that your work for the benefit of Hastings is not finished by this retirement, and we look forward

to working together again in the future.

Yours sincerely,
