The Boy Friend

In the desperately gay 1920’s following World War 1, the English Upper Class sent their debutante daughters to French Finishing Schools.

The elegant Madame Dubonnet has such a “School for Young Ladies” on the French Riviera.

Wealthy Polly Browne attends the school with madcap Maisie, Dulcie and many other young English girls. There is no shortage of “Boy Friends” among the young Frenchmen and wealthy Tourists. Polly, however, has been warned by her millionaire Father to be wary of fortune-seeking males.

Percival Browne visits his daughter and is reminded of an early affair with the French Headmistress. Polly meets Tony, a seemingly impoverished young man and decides to keep her fortune a secret … but when Tony’s parents arrive complications set in as they always do!

COSTUME DESIGN
PEGGY BRAZIER

Costume work on many shows including ‘Pajama Game’ ‘Oklahoma’ ‘King & I’ with major design work on ‘Can Can. Peggy has given “Boy Friend” the full treatment … Act 1 & 2 costumes being really twentyish … bright & gay! Act 3 costumes are outstanding … with detail, glimmer and contrast!

BEHIND THE SCENES

The orchestra assembled & rehearsed. Front of House staff arranged, tickets & booking arrangements organised, publicity ideas written, programme designed & written, advertising sold. MADAME DUBONNET
DOREEN MUDGWAY

Lead roles and all aspects of back stage and executive work … last year Understudy to ‘Dolly Levi’.
As Madame Dubonnet – very French, elegant … and with a hidden past is – ’ow would you say …magnifique?

LORD & LADY BROCKHURST
KEITH BRAZIER & RUTH CALSON

Both well-known throught[throughout] Hawke’s Bay on stage and behind the scenes Keith and Ruth are talented and experienced. Lady Brockurst, rather stilted and quite the ‘dominant’ wife and Lord Brockhurst – well, just watch out for him!

HORTENSE
YVONNE HOWMAN

Previously in ‘Oklahoma’ and last year Mrs Molloy in “Dolly“. As Hortense in “The Boy Friend” Yvonne’s beautiful voice and acting talent are equally matched by her attractive face and bright performance.

PERCIVAL BROWNE
JIM LAWSON

Auckland Operatic, Hastings Light Opera, Group theartre[theatre], Keirunga Players and productions in England have given Jim experience for his part as Millionaire Percival Browne … the ‘upper crust’ English gentleman.
