WEEK TRIPPER (Branch 13 Pres)

Sorry I missed the last Br 13/HBARC Pakowhai Hall meeting (on 25 May), Sue and I were away on holiday at Auckland, we had a great time. (Many thanks to Rob ZL2SG for standing in for me as chairman). And thanks to a very nice retirement present Sue and I will be going back to Auckland…for a long weekend. The last meeting was, of course, an “out visit” to the ABB business at the Napier Airport Industrial Park, it was well attended. Many thanks to Holger, Ross, Birgit and the ABB business for hosting us. It’s a pretty nice work place you have there.

Talking of holidays a couple of weeks back I was lucky enough to have a “boys week away” at Fiji (see pix elsewhere) and very nice it was too.

Seeing as how NZ is in mid Winter I don’t suppose it would be prudent to talk about swimming and warm sunny days…

Despite looking around for ham radio aerials I never saw one and consequently I wasn’t “active” while there.

For Sue and I our next “mission” is in the planning stage and will involve Hawaii and Alaska.

Ham radio has been super quiet for me for a wee while now and I suspect that even if I had a 2m contact an exchange of QSL cards would be necessary hi hi.

Has anyone noticed the spic and span grounds around our meeting Hall…courtesy of some Saturday “forced volunteers”, they’ve done a great job and it’s likely to continue?

Due to a fault please note that the “Clifton Accessor” is out of service and under repair.

Our next Br13/HBARC meeting is on 27 July, 7-30pm, Pakowhai Hall. After the meeting we have a couple of presentations to be made to a worthy recipient, then we get into the World Famous (at Pakowhai) DONATED JUNK AUCTION. The hall will be open early for you to bring your contributions along. And bring money so we can sell your junk back to you…all proceeds towards Club Funds to help defray our standing costs…and keep our balance sheet looking good.

Branch 25 Report

Well that’s another month closer to Xmas… don’t know where the time goes.

Had some really good weather for this time year. Yep, I know its winter but its not as bad I’ve known winters to be. Well maybe it’s living in this part of the bay, it’s seemed to be getting least frosts.

Radio wise I haven’t been doing much as even though retired I seem to have heaps to do.

Just a bit of blog for those those who do HF.

21 July – 18 August 2016 Tuvalu will be activated by Tom KC0W using call sign T2COW. He will operate on 160-6m CW

N7BF.WT4BT, AA4OC and W6ABM will be active from Martinique island IOTA NA 107 on the 29 October – 4 November

Call signs being used will be: FM/N7BF, FM/WT4BT, TO4OC and TO6ABM. They will operate on 40 – 10m ssb, Digital Modes.

Back to the P5 North Korea. No date has yet been set for the return by Don to this location. Although the radio equipment he used in December 2015 has been approved. These radios have remained in North Korea. That’s where they will remain even after his next trip. Even though he has three bands he’s allowed to use he’s going to operate on SSB 20m.
He will be using 100 watt with a vertical.

Cornflakes Net Eyeball

As many of you know, in HB we have the 7-30am week days “Cornflakes Net” on 670 repeater, it’s been going many decades now. Some folk are originals, others have been and gone and we have new folk participating also. Sometimes we are able to welcome area visitors to the net.

Thanks to an arrangement by Marilyn ZL2BOA many of us (and partners) recently had a very nice lunch at Jarks (a Hastings Restaurant). After talking to one another each morning by radio it was great to have some eyeball time…with some folk meeting others for the first time. Table place mats were crafted to welcome us by our host and we were asked by our host (after her staff asked) “what was the Cornflakes Net all about”?. Marilyn was able to enlighten her. Yes it was another fine gathering of the group. It was also noted that only two amongst the gathering did not hold a Gold Card …we need to get used to that, hi hi. (Thanks Joy for the pix).

AREC Inventory, Training and Have a Look Day

On the 21st of August we are having another day to inventory, deploy and check all of the AREC gear. If you want to pop along and have a look now is your chance. We will be at the Pakowhai Hall by 10am and expect to be there till at least 2pm with a sausage sizzle around lunch timeish. All welcome.
Any queries contact John ZL2VAF 027 230 3642   [email protected]

This is a time for xyl’s to come along and share the afternoon with the OM. There will be a light BBQ and cuppa available (if you’d like to contribute to the food pool please contact David ZL2DW and we could do with some guys to help in the kitchen on the day please).
