Newspaper Article – Earth and Fire exhibition

Mr Eric Bradwell, Napier, looks over one of the displays included in the Earth and Fire exhibition at the Hastings Cultural Centre on variations in pottery. The exhibition pieces are made by Bruce and Estelle Martin, Kamaka Pottery, Bridge Pa. The pots are unglazed and are fired for seven days in a anagama tunnel kiln at 1300 deg C. The two potters feed the kiln with split pine. The surface effects are achieved by the deposit of ash and flame patterns on the partly buried pots.
