The City of Hastings, in the Province of Hawke’s Bay, has the distinction of being among New Zealand’s most rapidly developing provincial areas.

Known for its varied and vast production of fruit, Hastings and the surrounding areas are often referred to as “The Fruit Bowl of New Zealand’’.

Hastings is a picturesque city with many parks and attractions, as this brochure illustrates.

Fantasyland Castle, which is adjacent to the Windsor Park Camping Ground, is a small edition of the famous Disneyland castle and provides an entertaining view of this wonderland for children.

The Highland Games, bagpipes included. This is all part of an annual Easter event for competitive sportsmen and athletes from all parts of New Zealand.

Tug-of-war, but the Highland Games is not solely competitive, there’s always merry-go-rounds, ferris wheels, and other amusements.

Cornwall Park, flower beds, trees, and green lawns; a botanic sight you should not miss.

Gannet Sanctuary at Cape Kidnappers is the only mainland gannetry in the world. This colony of Gannets attracts many visitors each year.

Hastings is one of the most progressive cities in New Zealand with a population of round 37,000 and is well known for its glorious climate, its rich fertile land and resulting high productivity. The latitude of 39 degrees 38 minutes south corresponds with that of Central Spain or Southern Italy in the Northern Hemisphere and Hastings’ mild climate is therefore comparable with the Mediterranean tourist resorts. The average temperature is slightly above 15º Celsius and the average rainfall is 762mm. Average annual hours of sunshine is among the highest in the Dominion.

Hastings, as a holiday centre, is the ideal base. Apart from the recreational facilities within the City, pleasant drives on excellent roads offer a variety of enjoyment to satisfy all tastes – beaches, rivers, trout fishing, golf, tramping, deer stalking, or simply the peaceful countryside.
