To the Members
On behalf of your Committee I submit for your consideration the Annual Report and Balance Sheet for the year ended 30 September 1991.

BEREAVEMENTS
We record with regret the passing of the following Members:
Messrs GP Donnelly, Boyd Wilson, Miss A Tait and Mrs JA Nelson.

FINANCES
This year we have bought a new truck, received less for investments, because of the decline in interest rates, and had a small decline in subscriptions. After allowing for $4,000 depreciation we have a loss of $1,400. A small loss it may be, but we cannot afford this situation. The Finance Committee have met, prepared a budget for next year and recommended to the general Committee an increase in subscriptions, which has been approved. The rise being Senior Members to $200.00 + GST, the rest stay the same.

FARM AND KENNELS
No big expenditure on the Kennels or farm was needed this year. The maize was again very successful. We have 40 cattle grazing out, which is proving very lucrative. May I thank all those who have grazed cattle or are presently grazing cattle for the Hunt. This account is now a very important part of the Hunt.

Our expenditure this year has been a diesel truck. The reduction in cost of Hound Transport has been greatly noticed. My thanks to Bruce Tweedie and his Sub-committee for their effort and time given to this section of the Hunt.

HOUND SHOW
This year the Central Districts Hound Show was held in Taranaki. We supported the show and were proud to travel home with the Supreme Champion Hound of the Show, “Duke”. This hound was walked by Jeanette Brain.

HUNTING
As I did not hunt or attend the Landowners Cocktail Party, this season I have asked John Holt to report, but firstly I would like to thank John, Barbara, Chris and Alec for stepping into the gap and making a very enjoyable season for all our members.

This season 32 Hunts were carded of which one was cancelled due to weather.
The average field was 73.

The season started with a large field and quite a number of new faces, some remaining to become Members. This would be the first season for a number of years where the card was followed as the weather pattern was kind to us. The Hunting at times was patchy but at times very good running was had. Two of the runs as good as we have had for a number of years. The Hounds again were turned out in great order thanks to Murray, Pauline and family.

I would like to thank the Members for the support given to Alec and myself throughout the season.

John Holt
DEPUTY MASTER

F B DONNELLY MEMORIALS
This year the format was changed to an award judged by an anonymous member of the Hunt during the season. Winners this year: Women’s – Barbara Willingham’s Bubble, who unfortunately passed on during the Taupo Hunt week.
Mens – Alec Smith’s Matahari.
John Frizzell Cup: First season Hunter – John Bridge’s Rani.
Punch Nelson Salver: Best walked First season Hound – Guilty walked by the Twist Family.

SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
The Cocktail Party was again a great success with a large number of Landowners attending. I would like to thank them for their support and willingness to help at all times.

A most successful Ball was run this year in the Assembly Hall. Many thanks to Chris Smith and her helpers.

HUNTER TRIALS
After the success of holding the Trials late in the season last year, a profitable and very well supported day was again held in July. The day was sponsored by Members and friends of the Hunt, just short of 100 animals competing during the day. Marion Donnelly, the short course Judge, and all the other Judges on the long course, may I thank you for your time and help. Our course builders Murray Thompson and Russell Davey are to be congratulated on the course they built.

Thank you Sponsors, being:
The Great Hage Company, Mr and Mrs G Nichol, Mrs R Edwards, Mr Charles Gordon, Mrs V Hanes, Nimon Baling Ltd, Mrs M Apatu, Hawkes Bay Racing Centre, Mr R Black, Mr and Mrs M W Coop, Mr and Mrs R Davey, Miss S Lamont, Mr and Mrs M McCleary, Mr P McGowan, Mrs A Train and Mr David Wilson.

RACING
This year as last we experienced mixed fortunes. Not rugby, but a general down turn in race meeting attendance and cash to invest. The Racing Authority also withdrew some $7,000 in Stakes Subsidy only three days before our meeting and our TAB Distribution was down some $19,000. This was partly offset by $5,500 Membership fees which came in for the first time. In spite of this we still had a successful meeting and have been able to put surplus cash into our Racing Reserve.

Once again I would like to thank the following businesses for purchasing a Promotion Package:
CHB Print
Deakin Motors
W & K Real Estate
Spurs Restaurant
International Ins Brokers
L I Redshaw Ltd
Charm Lingerie
Ampol – VJ Oil Distributors

Finally I would like to congratulate Paul and Carol Nelson, a sponsor for a number of years, on their success in the inaugural Bate Hallett – Dent Robertson Racing Awards, being the leading Owners and Chibuku being the Horse of the Year for Hawkes Bay. Also Sue Thompson, being the Jockey of the Year with a strike rate of .28 wins per ride. It was also most important to see Sue bounce back after a bad race fall and win the Duke of Gloucester Cup at Waikato Centennial Meeting aboard Amazon, part owned and trained by Committee man, Garnet Wood. All great supporters of Hunting.

HAWKES BAY RACING CENTRE
Our involvement in Racing as a shareholder in the Hawkes Bay Racing Centre has been a successful venture and the developments currently being undertaken, with the financial assistance of the New Zealand Racing Authority include a new Kitchen and upgrading of the Dining Room, Cafeteria, Public Bar and ladies and Escorts Lounge for the General Patrons

The Members are not being overlooked either, with new Bars being built in the Desert Gold, Sasanof and Karamu Lounges, as well as a new Snack Bar in the Sasanof.

Another project for all Patrons is the development of an infield Totalisator and Bar. This will allow Patrons to park on the infield for large meetings (particularly New Year) and enjoy picnics etc to avoid the excessive crowding currently experienced.

Our Director on the Board is Peter Roebuck, whose contribution is significant and appreciated by all.

THANKS
I would like to thank the Committee, their partners, Landowners, Members, Office Staff and friends of the Hunt for their support during this Hunting season.

Sam Nelson
MASTER
