Ladies Probus Club of Hastings

Minutes of the Foundation Meeting held at Windsor Lodge, Hastings, on Thursday 18th April 1991 at 9:45am

Present:
Jack Dunlop (Probus Convenor, Rotary District 993), Neil Donaldson (President, Hastings Rotary Club), John Eddington, Ian Cameron, and Hans Andersen (all Hastings Rotary Club), Lyndal Taylor and Malvina Jones (Havelock North Ladies Probus Club) and Ron Cole (Hastings Men’s Probus Club).

In addition, there were about 30 ladies who had accepted invitations to attend.

Apologies:
Betty Porter, Georgina Prebble, Dorothy Landsdown, and Vee Leyland tendered apologies for absence.

Welcome:
John Eddington, convenor of the meeting, welcomed those present including Neil Donaldson, whom he invited to act as chairman for the meeting.

Neil Donaldson explained the purpose of the meeting, and that the Rotary Club of Hastings had accepted the role of sponsoring Rotary Club to establish the Ladies Probus Club of Hastings.

Jack Dunlop gave a detailed explanation of Probus and the procedures and rules for operating a club.

Lyndal Taylor described how the Ladies Probus Club of Havelock North was formed and its progress to date.

Ron Cole talked about the development of the Men’s Probus Club of Hastings, how they operate their meetings, and other activities.

Ladies Probus Club of Hastings:
Neil Donaldson moved, and Joan Velvin seconded, a resolution that a Club be formed and that it be known as the “Ladies Probus Club of Hastings”.

Agreed unanimously.

It was moved that Foundation members would be those ladies present at this meeting, or who sent in an apology for this meeting, and who also attend or send in an apology for the next meeting to be held in May. Moved by Neil Donaldson, seconded by Greta Crist.

Agreed unanimously.

John Eddington then individually introduced the ladies present who had indicated a desire to become members.

Constitution:

On the motion of Margaret Morley, seconded Jean Stewart, it was agreed to adopt the “Probus Club Standard Constitution” for the Club.

Election of Officers:
President: Joan Pascoe
Secretary: Jean Walker
Treasurer: June Gadd
Committee: Norma Norton
Lily Bignall
Greta Crist

Next Meeting:
Agreed future meetings be held on the third Thursday each month, with the next meeting on Thursday, 16th May 1991 at 10am at Windsor Lodge.

Subscriptions:
Agreed the annual subscription be $10.

Entry fee of $5 will be charged for new members joining after the Foundation Members list has closed.

Chain of Office and Badges:
Neil Donaldson advised that the Rotary Club of Hastings will donate a President’s Chain of Office to the Club, and lapel badges for each foundation member.

President:
Joan Pascoe thanked the ladies for electing her as the first President and invited the new committee to meet at the conclusion.

Neil Donaldson thanked those who organised the meeting and all who attended.

The meeting closed at 11:50am.
