Letter From Gertrude Smith 1951

ORMLIE,
NAPIER.

22-4-51

My dear Constance

It was very sweet of you to send me those nice hankies, – thank you ever so much. I am sorry not to have written sooner, but I find when both the Girls are away it is all I can do to keep pace with everything else I have to do. Besides my young chickens I have added 9 baby ducks to my menagerie. The Girls did not get home

till 11-30 on Thursday night. What a thrill it would have been if they had won, all the same they did jolly well. When they arrived they came into my room and had tea, with the result I simply couldn’t sleep after it. We went to the Races yesterday. Oh what a day. Mud up to our ankles, & Hector & I did not have a collect all day. But all the same it was great fun – Judy went up to Whakakino (?) on Friday after golf she relieves on Tuesday. Then goes to a case at 8.30 on Wed mornings. The child never seems to be at home these days. But she is happy so why worry?
