FLETCHER CHALLENGE
CERAMICS AWARD

IN ASSOCIATION WITH AUCKLAND STUDIO POTTERS (INC)

19 February 1996

Dear Estelle

Thank you for your submission for the Fletcher Challenge Ceramics Award. We are delighted to tell you that the Judge, John Chalke of Canada, has accepted your work for the exhibition this year. We had 975 entries from 47 countries and of these the judge has accepted 165 for exhibition.

The dates for the exhibition have been changed this year. It will run from July 25 to August 25 1996. Awards will be selected by the judge from the actual works on 30 June to 2 July, prior to the Exhibition Opening and Award evening on 25 July at the Auckland Institute and Museum.

We require your work to arrive in Auckland as soon as possible and no later than 1 June, unless you are hand delivering your work (see acceptance form).

Work differing markedly from that represented by the submitted slide will be subject to reassessment.

Acceptance Form and Catalogue Information:

Fill in the enclosed Acceptance form giving us information on your intended transport arrangements and post SEPARATELY to us addressed:

Fletcher Challenge Ceramics Award,
P O Box 33.1425, Takapuna, Auckland.

This is a different address from the one on the Address Label.

This helps us to know when to expect your work and institute a search in the event of misdirection. We will advise you by letter on receipt of your work. On the enclosed Acceptance Form please check the information that we have taken from your entry form. Mark the square if the details are correct, or fill in or alter as necessary in the space provided. This information is what will appear in the catalogue. Please note the highlighted areas where we do not have the necessary information, and please check your address and telephone number in case we need to phone you urgently. We require this Acceptance Form to be in Auckland by mid-April.

We have enclosed a form for Artist’s notes and technical information. This will not be in the catalogue but will be in a supplementary book of notes at the exhibition for interested persons. Please do not send a complete curriculum vitae. Please complete and return with the Acceptance Form.

Display and Assembly Instructions:

Please label your work with your name. If you have any special directions for the assembly or display of your work, please write them on a separate sheet of paper and include them at the top inside your package containing the work. Include photographs if this would be helpful. Your entry number from the address label should be marked on any paper, drawings or photographs concerning the work. In the event of the absence of such instructions it will be understood that the manner in which the entry is displayed or presented in the catalogue will be left to the discretion of the organisers.

Insurance and Costs:

Your work is insured by us from unpacking to the time of repacking for despatch. If your work arrives damaged we cannot undertake to make claims on your behalf. We will inform you of any damaged work, and send you photographs and a signed statement to the effect that it was damaged when opened by us, so that you can make a claim on your own insurance. The cost of sending exhibits to and from Auckland must be borne by the artist.

Transport of Work:

Fill in the details on the address label supplied and note the entry number on it. Attach by tape or staple to the outside of your package. Address your package elsewhere as necessary using the address wording on the label supplied.

We will NOT accept work unless it is adequately packed for international transport. Your work may be purchased by an overseas buyer and need to be sent to them.

The best method for transport of work for out of Auckland potters is by courier to the Auckland Studio Potters Centre. Captain Springs Road extension, Onehunga, Auckland.

For sending by post, NZ Post regulations are :- under 20 kgs, the longest side must be less than 1 metre, the length of the other two sides must be less than 2 metres. There is definitely NO damage insurance available when sending by post. They insure only for loss. We do not recommend this method.

Our congratulations on your selection and we look forward very much to seeing your work in the exhibition.

We are glad to inform you that we have now produced a video of the 1995 Exhibition. This is a succinct overview of the exhibition as a whole, and runs for a period of 28 minutes. If you would like to purchase a copy, please enclose the sum of $29.95 + $2.50 (N.Island) $3.20 (S.Island) postage and packaging. We expect to produce a video of the 1996 exhibition as well, and will keep you informed of this.

Yours sincerely,
Penny Evans
