Dear Bruce and Estelle,
This year Gaelene [Gaeleen] Morley retired after three years as delegate and the Hawkes Bay Potters Association was required to elect a new delegate to represent them on the N.Z.S. of Potters Executive. Two members were nominated – myself and Ann de Latour [Lautour] from Gisborne. Following a vote I was elected for the 1992 – 1993 term. I attended the recent Executive meeting and the annual Convention in Auckland. There was a lot of interesting news, proposed activities and general business fully discussed. I intend to pass that and future news on to our local financial N.Z. Society members in the form of a newsletter when news and needs arise.
There will be communication difficulties whilst the formal forum of the Hawkes Bay Potters Association is in recess. It is worth noting we are the only region in N.Z. without an active Association and this made for sad reporting from me at the delegates meeting when I heard how positive, united and active other groups are.
I’ll endeavour to keep in touch with all members about the wider N.Z. pottery scene. I may not be able to come up with the answers and information straight off the cuff. I’ll do my best to fulfil my role as delegate as well as Gaelene and those before her.
The Auckland Institute and Museum is currently compiling data to produce an index of activities and achievements of individuals and organisations in the field of crafts. Because of your contribution to pottery and your personal success I feel you would qualify for inclusion in this index and hope if you have’nt already been asked you will give consideration now to the attached questionare [questionnaire].
I enclose a copy of the introductory notes for you to read the general background of the Index. If you complete the questionare please send it direct to the Auckland Institute and Museum. I would appreciate advice and comment from you for N.Z. Society records regardless of whether or not you participate.
I enclose for your reading the latest copy of the N.Z. Society newsletter.
Kind Regards
Pauline Cummins
