Newsletter Article 1929 – Woodville

Woodville.

Vicar: The Rev. G. W. Davidson.

The big event in the parish was the wedding of Miss Nelson to Mr. H. P. Horne, Mayor of Woodville, in the parish church on 14th August. Miss Nelson has for some years been the energetic secretary and treasurer of the Ladies’ Guild (sometimes with an assistant) and has been a devoted worker for the Church – her interest and sympathies carried her far and wide – being very willing to share the burdens of others, and one often wondered at the numbers of calls she responded so gladly [gladly] to – and her engagement was received with keen interest, and now she is happily married – many were the expressions of goodwill extended to them. Mr. Horne also is one who has lived a life of usefulness and goodwill to all around – not only as chief  magistrate, but in many other ways – in civic social, religious and patriotic schemes, and if good wishes count, as they do, Mr. and Mrs. Horne should be exceedingly happy – Amen – so mote it be.

One cannot leave this subject without a word or two in connection with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Nelson, parents of the bride. Both are keen church people and always willing to do more than their share for the welfare of Holy Trinity parish, and clear evidence was shown at the splendid wedding breakfast provided by them in their daughter’s honour.
