Newspaper Article 1921 – Mrs William Nelson

MRS. WILLIAM NELSON.

It is with regret that we have to report the death, at her residence, Waikoko, of Mrs. William Nelson, at the ripe age of 75 years. Mrs. Nelson has been in failing health for some time, but it was only during the last ten days that her illness took a serious turn and became a cause for anxiety. The deceased lady, who was a daughter of the late Bishop William Williams, and a sister of the late Bishop Leonard Williams, and of the late Mr. J. H [N]. Williams, of Frimley, married Mr. William Nelson about 35 years ago and since then she has been a loyal helpmate and dear companion to the grand old gentleman of Waikoko, who has earned for himself the title of Father of Hawke’s Bay, always ready with him to help with material substance and kindly encouragement all who needed assistance. To Mr. Nelson she gave one son, Mr. Leonard [Lionel] (Jack) Nelson and one daughter, the late Mrs. George Cotterill. Besides this, from the day she entered into the family life at Waikoko, she has been a kind and loving step-mother to the sons and daughters by the first wife.
