Douglas Wilfred Gilbertson

A Hastings public accountant in the firm of Rainbow and Hobbs, Mr. Douglas Wilfred Gilbertson, died in Hastings today at the age of 46.

Mr. Gilbertson joined the firm in 1926 and was admitted as a partner in 1945. He was born in Hastings in 1906 and was educated at the Napier Boys’ High School. He married Jocelyn [Joceline] Nelson in Hastings.

Mr. Gilbertson was a prominent member of the Hastings National Party and was at one time chairman of the branch. He also took an interest in racing throughout Hawke’s Bay and held a senior position on race day staffs. Until last year he was secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Polo Club. Mr Gilbertson was keenly interested in farming matters and gave local evidence before a Royal Commission on farming recently.

Mr Gilbertson leaves his widow and two daughters, Josephine, aged 19, and Margaret, aged 16. His father, Mr H. Gilbertson, sen., and five brothers also survive him. They are Roy (Hastings), Redvers (Havelock North), Stuart (Argyle), Bruce (Tautane) and John (Poukawa).

The funeral will leave St. Matthew’s Church for the Hawke’s Bay Crematorium, Hastings, following a service commencing at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
