Newspaper Article 1963 – HB Coach Now NI Selector

H.B. COACH NOW N.I. SELECTOR

An outdoor basketball coach for more than 20 years, Mrs Rona MtcCarthy [McCarthy], of Hastings, has been chosen as a North Island selector for the New Zealand basketball tournament to be held in Rotorua in August.

As Rona Tong, she represented New Zealand in the 1938 British Empire Games, taking a bronze medal for New Zealand in the 80 metres hurdles.

Mrs McCarthy was a Hawke’s bay representative player for eight years and was chosen for a New Zealand team to tour Australia.
