Potter’s work on show in Hastings

The work of a professional New Zealand potter, Mrs Helen Mason is displayed in an exhibition which opened in the NIMU Building, Hastings this morning.

The display has been arranged by Estelle and Bruce Martin, from Kamaka Potteries, Hastings and will be open to the public until Friday.

Work done by Barry Brickell, Coromandel, Len Castle, Auckland, James Greig, Greytown and Mr and Mrs Martin is also on display.

Mrs Mason said today the work on show were a collection, rather than an exhibition,

In drawing the distinction she said: ‘‘I feel an exhibition should be a definite statement of idea or an expression of emotion, designed to stir or shock or to give vent to strong and personal feelings. This collection, however, is a cross section of the work I do every day and aims to give satisfaction to the user as well as enjoyment to me in the making of it.
