Top award for Hastings netball coach

Mrs Rona McCarthy, of Hastings, has been presented with the New Zealand service award by the New Zealand Netball Association.

The honour was conferred at the association’s annual meeting in Lower Hutt this week.

The award is one of the highest given in New Zealand.

Mrs McCarthy has been associated with netball for many years as a player, coach, selector and manager.

She is an executive member of the Hawke’s Bay association and Hastings sub-association and holds the distinction of being a life member of both bodies.

Mrs McCarthy has been coach of the Convent Old Girls team for 30 years.
