Miss Rona Tong’s Effort at Dannevirke

(By Telegraph-Press Association).

DANNEVIRKE, Last Night.
Competing in the 90yds women’s hurdles at the Dannevirke Amateur Athletic Club’s annual meeting, Miss Rona Tong, of Hastings, holder of the New Zealand record for the event, succeeded in lowering her existing figures of 13 seconds by two-fifths of a second in the final, in which Miss Tong, one of the Dominion representatives for the Empire Games, ran the distance in 12 3-5 seconds, finishing very strongly and winning by several yards.

The conditions were perfect and there was an absence of wind when the race was run.

An application is to be made for recognition of the time as a New Zealand record.
