N.Z. RECORD EQUALLED

MISS R. TONG’S EFFORT

Splendid Form In 90 Yards Hurdles Exhibition

EXCELLENT MEETING

Although on Thursday night last the meeting was the carnival attraction of the season, last night’s meeting of the Napier Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club at McLean Park, Napier, was attended by the largest crowd of the season who, besides witnessing an excellent evening’s sport, saw Miss Rona Tong, of Hastings, equal the New Zealand record in an exhibition run over the 90 yards hurdles.

Miss Tong, who is a member of the New Zealand athletic team to compete at the Empire Games at Sydney next month, was accompanied over the hurdles by A. C. Bird, who withdrew after three parts of the journey had been completed. The New Zealand champion showed splendid form, although it is probable that had she been hard pressed she would have lowered the New Zealand record. Under the circumstances, being an exhibition run, Miss Tong’s effort was of the highest merit, and she deserved the full measure of appreciation she received from the large attendance.
